As the new Key Club year begins, it’s important for schools and advisors to understand the updated process and fees for chartering or rechartering a club in the Georgia District, Division 12. Whether you’re launching a brand-new club or renewing an existing one, here’s everything you need to know.

Chartering a New Key Club

Starting a Key Club from scratch is an exciting opportunity to bring service, leadership, and community to your school. The process includes:

  1. Gaining approval from your school administration and securing a sponsoring Kiwanis Club.

  2. Appointing a Faculty Advisor and having the Kiwanis sponsor designate a Kiwanis Advisor.

  3. Recruiting at least 11 members, who will serve as charter members and officers.

  4. Completing the Charter Petition and preparing all required forms.

  5. Paying the $400 charter fee, which covers the first year’s dues for all charter members.

  6. Submitting all materials to Key Club International for official recognition.

Once approved, your club can hold a chartering ceremony to celebrate its official start and introduce officers to the school and community.

Rechartering an Existing Club

Rechartering keeps your club active, connected, and eligible for district and international events. For the 2025–26 year, the Georgia District is waiving the recharter fee. This means renewing your club will cost $0 in recharter fees—you only need to collect and submit member dues.

The rechartering process includes:

  1. Updating your officer and member roster in the Membership Update Center.

  2. Collecting $20 per member in dues (International $10 + Georgia District $10).

  3. Submitting payment and required forms to Key Club International by the set deadline.

  4. Remaining in good standing to ensure your club can participate in events, apply for awards, and send delegates to conferences.

Why Timely Renewal Matters

Rechartering on time ensures uninterrupted access to Key Club’s resources, district events, leadership training, and scholarships. Clubs that submit dues early may also be recognized at the State Leadership Conference (SLC).
