School is out and summer is in the air. It's finally time to relax. However, even though school may be out, you can still serve your community and participate in Key Club.
The Georgia District Board still has responsibilities over the summer to communicate to serve Key Club. Our committee chairs and executive committee members are behind the scenes working hard to keep Georgia Key Club functioning as a whole. The Lieutenant Governors are communicating, providing information, and connecting each local Key Club with each other. Though our district does have a lot of responsibilities, so do you! Key Club wouldn't be a club if it weren’t for members, officers, and faculty/Kiwanis advisors.
Firstly, in order to manage each club there must be officers. May or the beginning of next school should be designated for officer elections. Once officers are selected, please fill out the Officer Information form that your lieutenant governor should have sent and added to their newsletter. Now that officers have positions they must be trained on their position; lucky lieutenant governors are required to have officer training. If you have an officer please be encouraged to attend the training. From there you will know how to fill out your role as a Key Club officer for the 2025-2026 school year.
Next, officers and faculty advisors should be in charge of organizing their Key Club, but they could always use help from members too! The beginning of the school year is crucial for recruiting new members to your Key Club. Setting up a station at your school's orientation is a great way to inform new students about Key Club. You could also put up posters around the school, make a social media post, and offer snacks at first meeting. Once your club begins having meetings, try having your meeting based on a certain theme or service project happening per month. Lastly, it is extremely important to keep up communication with your Kiwanis advisor as they provide volunteer opportunities, projects, and overall support.
I strongly encourage you to enjoy the summer and spend time with your loved one, but also try to squeeze in time to prepare for Key Club. At the minimum, try to have a summer officer meeting and discuss plans for your Key Club. Each Key Club stands on its own individually so feel free to do whatever you need for your club to be successful. Anyone can help! The most important thing is to keep serving your community. Have a great summer!
