UNICEF, which stands for the United Nations Children’s Fund, is a global organization within the United Nations dedicated to protecting and supporting children around the world. Founded in 1946 to provide emergency relief to children affected by World War II, UNICEF has continued that mission for nearly 80 years. They work to ensure that every child grows up healthy, educated, protected, and respected. They partner with local community organizations to strengthen the impact of their programs, especially in areas of poverty or conflict. From providing life-saving vaccines and clean water to supporting education, UNICEF serves children in some of the toughest regions across the globe.
UNICEF began its partnership with Key Club International in 1994 through the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign. A program we still do today. It originally began in the 1950s as a Halloween fundraiser, encouraging children and families to collect donations while trick-or-treating to support children in need worldwide. This longstanding tradition continues to unite Key Clubbers in service each fall.
Be sure to check out the Key Club International and UNICEF websites as the fall season approaches to learn how your club can participate in this district-wide project. But you don’t have to wait until October! Clubs can start a UNICEF fundraiser at any time by creating a fundraising page directly through UNICEF’s website.
