Serving as the Events Committee Chair on the District Board has been one of the most meaningful leadership experiences I have had in Key Club. In this role, I worked closely with the rest of the district board to plan large events for members across the district. One of the biggest events we organized was GLTC, which had around 350 members attend. Planning an event of that size required a lot of preparation, communication, and coordination between many people. From organizing sessions to making sure schedules ran smoothly, I learned how much effort goes into creating a successful event for so many attendees.
Through this experience, I learned the true value of teamwork. Every board member had different responsibilities, and the event could only succeed if we all supported each other and worked together. There were many moments where we had to solve problems quickly, adjust plans, and trust one another to complete our tasks. Being part of this process helped me grow as a leader because I realized leadership is not just about leading others, but also about collaborating and listening to different ideas.
Now, we are continuing this work by planning SLC, our Service Leadership Conference. Preparing for SLC has given me even more opportunities to apply what I learned from GLTC, especially when it comes to organization and communication. As we work together to create another impactful event for Key Club members, I am continuing to grow in my leadership skills and appreciate the importance of dedication, teamwork, and service.
